On the Way Home
Friday morning we packed up with Kirse's help and headed to Salt Lake. Grandma Cynthia had flown into Salt Lake the night before, so we picked her up at her hotel and headed out of Utah. First we drove through Wyoming and saw lots of antelope and wind generators. We spent the night somewhere in Nebraska. Nebraska is always such a blur to me. The next day we drove to Columbia, MO to visit Daniel's cousin Tammy, Moss and fam. Along the way we saw this water tower that said "Dearborn", too bad we were still a thousand miles from home. I think we were all so relieved to get to Tammy and Moss' that we forgot to take any pictures. The girls had fun with Mary, Anna, Jake, and Brooke. We should have taken a picture of Brooke and Myka together, they look so much alike. Sunday we went to church and had lunch with their family (thanks so much Tammy, it was great!). Then we packed up and got directions through the backroads to Nauvoo. Cynthia had never been to Nauvoo so it was neat to go. The bad part was by the time we got there all the buildings were closed and it was a Sunday so there wasn't a whole lot going on. We had a fun time wandering the streets and reading the signs in front of the houses. We got down to the Mississippi landing area right after sunset and it was really pretty. There was even a bagpiper that started playing off in the trees, it was really neat. About 9:00 we decided we were really hungry and needed some real food (instead of car snacks). The problem was in the little town of Nauvoo finding real food after 9:00 pm is not likely. We drove around for a bit and then decided if we hit the road we would pass some fast food soon. Well 2 1/2 hours later we finally saw the glorious sight of Taco Bell. It was really foggy and humid that night too; we had our wipers and the defrost on the whole time and our windows were still constantly clouded. We found a hotel shortly thereafter and the next day drove home!!! We were all very excited to be home and out of the car. Birgitte and Family made this cute banner for us to come home to and took good care of our Daddy while we were gone.
