Downtown Detroit

We decided that since this was Cynthia's third visit with us it was about time to take her downtown Detroit. We have found that the best time to do this is a Saturday during daytime hours. There are some neat things in downtown and an area that is quite nice. We had fun walking the waterfront. We actually explored a little bit more than we have before and found a fun carousel and some neat map art on the sidewalks and this wall. The girls had a great time playing in the fountain, which I wish I would have gotten a picture of. Then we wandered into the Renaissance Center to see the cool Aurora Borealis sculpture and to try and catch the People Mover. We found the People Mover was closed for contruction. So the girls, Grandma, and I wandered around exploring more statues, sculptures, and fountains while Daniel ran and got the car. We then headed a few blocks to Greektown, which took a long time because there was a Detroit Tigers game that night. We had a fun dinner (complete with flaming goat cheese) and then enjoyed treats from this bakery next door. We took Grandma the long way home and drove around Belle Isle and up Gross Pointe. It is a fun treat to go downtown every once in awhile when we have company come. We just never push our luck and make sure we are on our way out by the time it gets dark!
