Halloween ended up being just about perfect. I helped at Kyla's school with her party, while my friend hung out at the house while Myka slept. Daniel unexpectedly showed up home from work at 4:00. I guess the manager had sent and email out to everyone around three telling them to go home early since it was Halloween. He somehow didn't get the email, but around four realized he was the only person left. This was a great surprise since we hadn't had time to carve our pumpkins yet. Daniel did that with the girls while I tried to get our "Dinner in a Pumpkin" in the oven. I had thought I could get it cooked and ready to eat before trick-or-treating but it was too large of a pumpkin and I was too slow getting it in. We got ready and headed out to trick-or-treat around 6:30 we did our street and then drove up closer to the girls' school. There was a street where a lot of the houses had fun decorations. We were blessed with pleasantly warm weather, 65+. Trick-or-treating was such a fun experience this year. We were on that street for about 45 minutes and I think that we only knocked on two doors. Because everyone was on their porches, driveways, or lawns handing out candy. There were several places with bonfires in the fire pits, everyone had the camp chairs out, and one guy even had his grill going with hot dogs and hamburgers for everyone. The girls got a ton of candy, of course. But better than that was getting to pet everyone's dogs.
After trick-or-treating we stopped by the house to pick up the pumpkin roll and I gave the girls a bowl of dinner while we drove over to a friends house. The young families in the ward here take turns having a Halloween open house so we can all hang out together. It was so much fun and the food was delicious (spinach dip and pumpkin roll, two of the things I had been craving the most). We got home late enough that the girls didn't have time to go through their candy but they didn't mind too much. So other than actually eating dinner BEFORE trick-or-treating, the evening was a success! They only ate one or two pieces of candy before dinner since they were so busy hitting the pavement, so it didn't ruin their appetite too much. I wish I had gotten a better picture of Myka by herself. The costume she is wearing is incredible. I bought it at the Disney store last year when they were going out of business. I am going to have to find someone else that can use it since she will be out of it by next year, and I don't think a little boy will be wanting to be Tinkerbell.
