Ice Skating Fun

The day before Thanksgiving we decided to have an outing to the local ice skating rink. They had these walkers for the girls and Kyla, Kaira, and Senna took off running. Nora tried the walker but decided she would rather work it out slowly on her own.

Nora did a great job going round and round pretty slowly. I don't know if she ever really got the coordination of skating, but rarely fell down. I was really proud of her determination and persistence (not something she displays frequently). She was on the ice the whole time along with Kyla.

Myka thought the idea of skating was fun, but was still a little under the weather so she sat out a lot with Grandpa.

We were all having a great time until this happened.

Thanks to my Dad for thinking of taking a picture. Daniel and I had the opportunity to be on the ice without any needy children for a minute. We were skating around together and he asked me how it was going. I said pretty good and that I felt pretty comfortable. I also said but it is always when you are feeling comfortable that things happen and you get hurt. Less than a minute later I was staring at the ceiling trying to make out a bunch of blurred faces hoovering over me. I had just slipped and fell flat on my back, well mostly on my head. When I first hit everything in my body went buzzy and numb. Slowly I got feeling back and they helped me off the ice. After about a half an hour of sitting in the lobby and going through phases of extreme nausea and dizziness, I decided I needed to go to the urgent care. It just didn't seem to be getting much better. They checked me out there with some basic nervous system tests, and said I didn't have a concussion. I ended up throwing up the next morning, which convinced my mom that I did have a concussion and had a lot of pain in the back of my head and neck the next couple of days. Needless to say, Thanksgiving was spent laying on the couch and watching everyone else play, but it was still a lot of fun.
