When we bought our new family vehicle we were all so excited at the great feature of having a DVD player. Since we very rarely turn on the TV at home I was very excited to actually have an opportunity for the girls to watch all the videos that we end up returning to the library unwatched. Unfortunately, this has had some bad effects. Don't get me wrong they are still great at behaving in the car even without a movie going. The first day in the car I think we went 7 hours before we ended up starting up the show. The problem is in the 10 months that we have owned our new fancy car we had not driven for any longer than an hour at a time. So between having a DVD player and not ever being in the car for very long, they kind of forgot how to fall asleep in their carseats. We began to realize this when we had been driving for 9 hours, it was 11:00 at night and Myka had still not taken her nap. We had specifically left in the late afternoon without giving her a nap, in hopes that she would sleep the first few hours. Instead, we got to hear "I need to go potty" and "My bum hurts" every couple minutes for 9 hours. We thought these picture pretty much captured the moment.
Actually that evening ended up being pretty miserable as we decided to "winter over" in Council Bluffs Iowa as Daniel called it. Somehow we didn't get off the right exit and ended up wandering around a really strange city in the middle of the night (at which point of course the girls woke up who had finally fallen asleep about an hour before). We finally found the comercial part of town and the hotels. Unfortunately, we also found out there had been a nasty wind and rain storm, which resulted in most of the hotels being full or having no power. So it took about another hour to finally get checked in to the last room at the Motel 6. What a great start to our trip.
