We decided to head to the village this morning. It was Macy's 2nd Monday when they do lots of fun activities and a fun way to celebrate Myka's best friends' birthday. The girls planted sunflowers, they had story telling, churning butter, doing wash, and my favorite sheering the sheep. I have waited to see this demonstration and seem to always miss it. It was really cool to watch, I was amazed at how docile the sheep was while he snipped away. It's amazing how we can visit this place so many times and still see new things almost everytime. We happened to pass by the silk mill and I noticed there was a demonstration sign. We got to go in and see the cocoons made by the silk worms. And how the silk mill worked. You have to soak the cocoons and then get one long string started. Then hook about 10 of those together to spin together to make a good thread of silk.
If you look closely you can see Kyla climbing the mulberry trees. These are the kind of leaves that silk worms like to eat.
It was a fun morning but too bad we had to get Kyla to school and couldn't stay all day.
