Memorial Day Weekend

I already posted about our fun on Friday. Saturday turned into a work day by cleaning out the garage. I was very surprised that it took us All day to get it done. We took out the bikes, strollers, wagon, grill, etc. and washed them all on the front lawn. The rest of the day people were stopping wondering if we were having a garage sale. We did a pretty thorough job, I even swept all the walls and corners. The girls were not very excited about the project and had a hard time keeping themselves occupied. The highlight for them was when Daniel found this family of slugs. (not in the garage)

The slugs had really cool patterns on them so I had to take a picture up close. The girls also discovered that the garage had an attic that they thought needed to be converted into a clubhouse. So we promised them if they let us work the rest of the day we would help them get it ready on Monday.

After a fun and relaxing Sunday with Sis Rector over for dinner we woke up Monday morning and got ready for the parade. It was pretty fun. The weather was just perfect for a parade, not too hot at all. This is a picture of our backyard neighbors in a WWII Jeep and trailer.

And one of Daniel's young men playing his clarinet in a marching band.

The girls also saw friends from school and their dance troop from last year. It was neat to see so many familiar faces in the parade, almost had a hometown feel to it.

After the parade was over, we headed to Greenfield Village for the Civil War Remembrance Commemoration. We got there just in time to watch everyone parade up into the village green and start the program. They had the Union lined up on one side and the Confederate on the other. They also had the North and South civilians and mourning women and a band.

The presenter told how Memorial Day came about, told some neat stories of war heroes, and read a really neat poem called "The Last Camp".

Then they had all the people that had ever served in the military (presenters or visitors) come and stand on the field.

We hung out at the village for a few hours - visited the 11 new baby lambs and saw the calvary demonstration. Then we headed home to get ready for a BBQ with friends. We are so lucky to have so many friends to do fun things with, especially lots of friends with sweet little girls.

Myka has really gotten into the "taken a picture of this mom" phase of life. I am grateful for a digital camera where we can take as many pictures as we want.

Speakin of taking as many pictures as we want, Kyla has been using the camera quite a bit lately. She took off with it the other day and probably took 30 pictures of everything in the house, including the toliet. She asked if she could take some pictures at the BBQ. I really think this one of Myka and her friend on the swings is great. She took the one of them on the trampoline too. Maybe we have an amateur photographer on our hands.

All in all it was a super fun, busy weekend and a little hard to get back into the routine of life.
